Initial consultations are a 45 minute appointment and include 30 minutes of electrolysis. Your first "consultation appointment" consists of an in depth explanation of the process and a treatment session that will last a max of 30 minutes. We will then discuss a treatment plan moving forward that works for your individual needs. Electrolysis requires consistency for effectiveness: My clients typically come weekly or every other week initially, for the course of a year or longer. Less and less hair returns, and sessions get shorter are short over that time until all problem hairs are gone.
Your electrologist is trained, certified, and highly experienced in affective permanent hair removal.

Currently, I am only accepting clients for facial hair removal, as my schedule is quite full and this is the highest need area, most affecting our self-esteem. (Although, I do arm hair removal for trans men).

(My schedule is often very full with back-to-back clients, so it is easier for me to communicate through email). During your first appointment you will receive a max of 30 minutes of hair removal: This allows me to get to know you, your needs, how your hair and skin respond. We will we establish a customized plan for you moving forward. This first consultation appointment is $75

Treatable Areas
Electrolysis can be performed on most areas of the body. At Smooth Skin Electrolysis my primary focus and specialty is on the face: upper lip, chin, cheeks, jawline, neck, and eyebrows.
While electrolysis can be performed on other areas, at Smooth Skin Electrolysis my focus is on faces. I don't treat legs, armpits​, or private areas. If you are interested in these areas please ask me for a referral recommendation.

Electrolysis works safely and effectively on every hair and skin type: Yes, even white and blonde hair! It is not laser and therefore does not rely on pigmentation to work, making it safe for all skin tones.

Preparing for Your First Session:
To prepare for your first session you’ll need to let your hairs grow out just long enough so that I can grasp them with tweezers for removal after treating them. This is approximately 1/8th of an inch. If you are tweezing or waxing you’ll need to refrain from doing so. You can trim or shave to manage facial hair growth between your sessions. You’ll need to stop enough days before your appointment to ensure enough growth. This varies for every individual, from only one day to 3-7days. If you’d like, you can also use a lidocaine topical anesthetic cream on the treatment area, applying 15-20 minutes before your appointment. You can get these at any drugstore.
Transgender Services
At Smooth Skin Electrolysis transgender services include facial hair removal for trans women, and arm hair removal for trans men in preparation for reassignment surgery. I am not trained or experienced in the genital hair removal required for sexual reassignment surgery, so I do not offer that service. There are several locations in Northern Virginia/Washington DC I have come across that offer these services: https://althealthassociates.com/ and https://vishkaskincare.com/
I do not have personal experience with either of these locations, so I cannot offer references for them. If you have had experience with these locations, or know of other locations that offer electrolysis for SRS preparation, please let me know so that I can share any pertinent information as a resource for others.

Question
Does electrolysis work on blonde or white hairs?

Answer: YES! Electrolysis is not dependent on pigmentation, unlike laser which relies of coloration of the hair to travel to the root. A tiny probe is inserted directly to the root of the hair follicle disabling the blood supply to the hair. This mechanism and anatomy is exactly the same for every hair type.

Likewise, electrolysis is also safe and effective for all skin types, including dark tones.
Question
Does it hurt?
​
Answer: It is very tolerable. You will feel a sensation of heat within the hair follicle. Every individual's tolerance is different. Most people only experience mild discomfort, some feel no pain, and yet there are some who have heightened sensitivity. Your electrologist can adjust the settings to meet your comfort level.
Question
How many sessions will I need?
​
Answer: There's no exact answer for this, as it relies on several factors, including the amount of unwanted hair in the treatment area, type of hair (coarseness, straight, or curly), and the stage of the growth cycle that the hairs are in. It definitely takes repeated treatment sessions, with less and less hairs returning over the course of a year or more. Your electrologist can help give you a better idea of a plan for your during your consultation based on your individual needs. You should be prepared to receive treatments for the duration of a year, and beyond for those with lots of facial hair, while keeping in mind that there is definitely an end in site. Less and less hair is present and session get shorter and shorter over time. If you never start the journey to permanent hair removal, you will be dealing with the unwanted hairs indefinitely. So, the sooner you start with a permanent solution the closer your end-date results will be achieved!

For me personally, it took 8 months for consistent treatments in my problem area (lip and chin), with less frequent follow up treatments thereafter. The treatment sessions shortened from 30 minutes to 20, to 15, to 10, to zero! It was so worth the investment in myself!
Question
What about PEACH FUZZ?

Answer: Peach fuzz are normal hairs (not problem hairs) that we all have on our bodies. It is very difficult to treat peach fuzz. The best way to treat peach fuzz is by trimming, shaving, or dermaplaning. This is what I do for my own peach fuzz! It is biologically impossible for the hairs to come back courser from shaving.

MYTH: Shaving makes facial hairs grow back coarser. This is NOT true. It is biologically impossible for hair to grow back coarser from shaving. Only the expose tip of the hair is being trimmed, similar to getting a hair cut. It simply creates a blunt edge. However, prolonged tweezing or waxing *facial* hairs does make them stronger/thicker/darker over time, as this affects the blood supply that hairs are connected to and receiving growth nutrients from. So no more plucking or waxing! Instead, shave or dermaplane!
